Temporary course development shells are useful in at least three ways:
  1. The give you a place to practice using the tools in Learn, especially when you are just getting started using Learn.

  2. They give you a place to try out different tools, layouts, etc. in Learn outside of your online classroom. Much of what you develop in a temporary shell can be copied into your "real" course shell (online classroom).

  3. They give you a place to start building a course before course shells for online classrooms are available. Shells for the next semester are usually available a few days after the start of registration.

To obtain a temporary course development shell
  • You will need the following information:
    • Your UNM NetID and email address

    • The Department and course number (e.g., PSY 105)

    • The semester in which you expect to teach the course. (Obtaining a temporary shell does not commit you to teaching the course.)

  • Send an email to UNM's Learn support team at learn@unm.edu, state that you wish to obtain a temporary course development shell, and provide your name, along with the above information. Temporary shells are normally set up within two working days, often sooner.
